For 2016-2017, the League has three primary emphases: (1) undertake a study of "green" building codes for Winnebago County municipalities, (2) promote public awareness and encourage action to foster diversity in Winnebago County, and (3) monitor and participate in implementation of the Oshkosh Area School District Strategic Plan

We hold periodic community forums on topics related to current League studies or governmental issues.

Food for Thought Luncheons

LWV Winnebago County holds monthly "Food for Thought" luncheons which feature speakers on various city, county, school, state and national topics of interest to League members. These luncheons are held at noon on the second Wednesday of every month at Primo Restaurant, 2605 Jackson St., Oshkosh. No reservation is needed, order from the menu. Meetings are always open to the public.

Neenah Menasha Breakfast

Members gather on periodic Saturday mornings to discuss Neenah Menasha issues of LWV interest. Breakfast is held at 9:00 am, Remington's restaurant, 123 E. Wisconsin St., Neenah. Anyone is welcome.

Prior to each primary and general election, we sponsor candidate forums in the Neenah, Menasha, and Oshkosh areas. Oshkosh forums are co-sponsored by Oshkosh Media Gov TV 10. We also assist with voter registration.

Poverty in Winnebago County

LWV Winnebago County undertook a study on the scope of poverty in the county: who are the poor? where do they live? what are their food security, basic shelter, and health issues? A public forum held Oct. 21. 2013 "Poverty in our Midst -- a Persistent Ache" explored this topic.

Homeless Study Report -- 2005

The LWV Oshkosh undertook a study of the role of local government in providing shelter for the homeless. A League committee collected data and conducted interviews with service providers as well as with the City of Oshkosh Community Development Department. This report focuses on the issue of homeless people in Oshkosh and includes data on the estimated number of homeless persons, availability of shelter beds and identifies gaps in services to the homeless.
